Adult Education Training Intern
Department: Cincinnati History Museum - Education
Responsibilities:
- Obtain a general knowledge of CHM exhibits and floor programs.
- Obtain an in-depth knowledge of the adult volunteer training program.
- Under the direction of the Adult Education Coordinator develop and finalize adult evaluation procedures.
- Under the direction of the Adult Education Coordinator develop and finalize adult training paths.
- General office work related to Adult volunteer training, including using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Qualifications:
- Must be out-going, friendly, and energetic and have a positive attitude.
- Desire and ability to work with retirees, professionals and college students in an informal education environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
- Has experience working with a diverse group of adults.
- Must possess excellent communication and good listening, mediating and organizational skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Experience working with Adult volunteers.
- Experience developing and conducting evaluations and or testing materials a plus.
Additional Information:
- Flexible work hours, including at least one weekend day during the week.

Animal Resources Intern
Department: Zoology
Responsibilities: Main responsibility is to ensure that animals and animal facilities are appropriately cared for and maintained, along with conducting regularly scheduled animal-based educational programs for Museum guests. Work schedule includes:
- Each day, this intern will assist the Animal Resources department in caring for several species of local snakes, turtles and mammals, as well as local and exotic fish and invertebrates.
- Each day, this intern is expected to assist the Animal Resources department in conducting animal-based educational programs for Museum visitors of all ages and educational backgrounds.
- Each week, this intern is expected to master the skills necessary to care for -and educate a diverse audience about - one of our captive species. By the completion of the experience, the intern should feel competent in all basic aspects of animal care and animal-based educational programming at CMC.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled in an undergraduate Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Animal Husbandry, Zoo Science or related program, with a sincere interest in pursuing a career in animal care. Must be a team player with excellent organizational skills and the discipline to complete tasks independently. Must possess strong communication and customer service skills to effectively present animal-based programming to diverse audiences, and to communicate with coworkers.
Additional Information: At least one weekend day preferred. The intern will have no direct contact with bats, unless the intern already has a current rabies pre-exposure inoculation. NOTE: CMC will not provide rabies inoculations to interns who do not already have them.
Cataloger/Curatorial Intern
Department: Cincinnati Museum Center - History Objects Collection
Responsibilities:
- Research and catalog museum collection objects
- Data entry of catalog information and photographs
- Other work to be assigned
Qualifications: The Cincinnati Museum Center History Objects Collection Division is in need of an upper-level university student to assist in the research, cataloging and data entry of its historic collections. The successful applicant should possess a sound knowledge of American History or a related field, interest in material culture, as well as excellent writing and editing abilities. Data entry experience is essential.
Additional Information: The Cincinnati Museum Center History Object Collection is comprised of more than forty thousand historical objects and works of art related to the social, cultural & economic history of Cincinnati and Southwest Ohio; it is one of the fastest growing collections at the Museum Center. Specific collections include: Cincinnati business & industry: brewing, machine tools and furniture; Civil War uniforms, weapons & equipment; 19th and 20th century lighting devices; historic clothing & textiles; decorative arts; fine art: paintings, lithographs and drawings. The Cincinnati Museum Center History Collections Department offers a wide variety of research opportunities and hands-on museum experience.
Children's Museum Programs Intern
Department: Education
Responsibilities:
- Main responsibility in the Duke Energy Children’s Museum is to insure that all museum guests have a satisfying, educational, enjoyable and safe experience. Work schedule includes:
- Assist in the planning and implementation of Art, Culture, or Science demonstrations.
- Each day, this intern is expected to interact with visitors in the Children's Museum in an outgoing, friendly manner. This position also requires strong written and verbal communication skills for interactions with other staff members.
- During office work time, this person may be asked to assist with preparation of materials for upcoming demonstrations, attend meetings, and assist with materials inventory, as well as designing at least two Art, Culture, or Science demonstrations (write lesson plans, prepare materials, and carry out the demonstration on the floor).
Qualifications: Currently enrolled in an Education program, Museum Studies, or Art, Culture, or Science related field. At least three months experience working with children, or coursework in child development required. Must be a team player with excellent organization, customer service and communication skills.

Cincinnati History Museum Research Assistant Intern
Department: Cincinnati History Museum - Education
Responsibilities: The Research Assistant Intern will work with the Director of the Cincinnati History Museum on the following projects:
- Create a method for documenting current and new education collection items and props. The document would outline information such as use, location, accession identification number, etc.
- Assist in the creation and locate possible funding opportunities for several new History programs.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to use Microsoft office products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Should be self-motivated and be able to work without close supervision and be very detailed oriented.
- Candidate should be able to stand or sit for at least one hour or more.
- Candidate should also be able to walk up and down two flights of stairs and navigate floors that are uneven and/or ramped.

Corporate Communications Intern
Department: Institutional Advancement
Responsibilities: Under the guidance of the Institutional Advancement staff, the Corporate Communications Intern will:
- Identify creative new ways to engage corporate donors
- Activate and follow through on current donor fulfillment
- Research and create proposals for interest-specific mission matched organizations
Qualifications:
- Self-motivated, creative thinker
- Organized, detail oriented
- Excellent communication, team building, and relationship skills
- Ability to multi-task
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Power Point and other computer skills
- Experience in fundraising a plus
Additional Information: Applicant must have an interest in positively impacting the philanthropic sector post graduation. The internship is broken up into check-points through 10 weeks, during which time the applicant will familiarize themselves with Cincinnati Museum Center, and fundraising;
- Focusing on corporate philanthropy trends and motivations (3 weeks)
- Creating sample proposals and solicit mock potential funders (2 weeks)
- Creating and working to activate a communications (cultivation plan) for corporate donors/prospects (5 weeks)
Applicant will be encouraged to participate in professional develop opportunities within the community. Applicant will receive mentoring during the 10 week internship.
Costume Design Intern
Department: Cincinnati History Museum- Education
Responsibilities: The Costume Design Intern will work with the Director of the Cincinnati History Museum on the following projects:
- Create clothing for staff and volunteers that will be used in museum theater programming, such as 1st and 3rd costumed character interpretation. Time period for clothing projects range from pre-contact Native American cultures through WWII.
- Assist in the repair and organization of existing costumes.
Qualifications:
- Must be able to sew garments.
- Should be self-motivated and be able to work without close supervision and be very detailed oriented.
- Candidate should be able to stand or sit for at least one hour or more.
- Candidate should also be able to walk up and down two flights of stairs and navigate floors that are uneven and/or ramped.

Digital Engagement Intern
Department: Informatics
Responsibilities:
- Monitor Cincinnati Museum Center brand on Twitter, in blogs and in the news. Produce reports on findings.
- Feed online calendars with Cincinnati Museum Center events, exhibits and programming.
- Populate www.cincymuseum.org calendar with monthly programming and events.
- Research interest-specific blogs around Cincinnati Museum Center content areas and/or exhibits.
- Compile metrics for all social media channels, including: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, web and email lists.
- Identify potential opportunities for social media content across all museum departments.
- Aid in capturing content for social media.
- Populate content through social media as needed.
- Help brainstorm potential social media promotions around special exhibitions.
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate entering their Sophomore, Junior, or Senior year
- Majoring in communications or media studies
- Personally active in social media with knowledge of trends and/or tools available through social media
- Experience with content management systems a plus (Drupal, WordPress, etc.)

Early Childhood Education Intern
Department: Education

- Assist in the planning and implementation of Super Sprouts, Sprouts Institute, &/or Story Tree Time, depending on schedule.
- Each day, this intern is expected to interact with visitors in the Children's Museum in an outgoing, friendly manner. This position also requires strong written and verbal communication skills for interactions with other staff members.

During office work time, this person may be asked to assist with preparation of materials for upcoming demonstrations, attend meetings, and assist with materials inventory, as well as choosing at least two of the following:
- Design demonstration for Super Sprouts, write lesson plans, prepare materials, and carry out the demonstration on the floor
- Create an information binder for the Parent Resource Center about the benefits of incorporating art into children’s learning (or other related topic).
- Design demonstration for Sprouts Institute, write lesson plans, prepare materials, and carry out the demonstration on the floor
- Prepare and implement a lesson for Story Time, including active storytelling, songs, and interactive games to last 30 minutes.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled in an Early Childhood Education program or related field. At least three months experience working with children, or coursework in child development required. Must be a team player with excellent organization, customer service and communication skills.

Responsibilities:
- See to daily office work (answer/make calls, manage membership fulfillment, respond to donation requests, etc.)
- Update weekly Hip Tips e-newsletter
- Promote arts partner events via Facebook, Twitter and the ETA blog
- Brainstorm and develop creative promotions to attract new members
- Help develop plans for future arts events
- Research opportunities for cross promotion through schools, universities and young professional groups
- Complete various tasks as assigned

Marketing Intern
Department: Marketing & Public Relations
Responsibilities:
- Maintain media clips file and review each clip and assign corresponding media value.
- Write press releases and feature editorial pieces. Assist with press release distribution. Manage contact database and department files.
- Serve as contact person for screening requests for donated tickets and memberships. Coordinate yes or no response follow-up with Membership.
- Serve as an “adjunct” project manager on projects assigned by Manager.
- Facilitate mailings of brochures and other collateral materials to area hotels, visitor’s centers, etc.
- Coordinate mailings and e-mail blasts to various constituent groups, i.e.: churches, special interest groups, etc.
- Perform copy writing and copy-editing tasks as needed.
- Provide clerical support and telephone assistance; prepare reports and correspondence for Marketing Manager.

Museum Inventory and Accession Records
Department: Registration
Responsibilities:
- Museum inventory - Record or reconcile each collection object on display in each museum organized by display area; Update or create Emu catalog record, update location information; Confirm that an event is created in Emu, update record with object information; Label artifact; Identify props or non-permanent collection object on display, determine if an education collection object or exhibit prop
- Digitize old CHS accession record - Create new accession record in Emu, including new party record if needed; Digitize photocopies of donation records in binders, check for entry in card file, paper file or Emu record; Create file as necessary
- Collections storage inventories - Nature Art; Archaeology cabinets; History Objects
Qualifications: Database experience and strong attention to detail are required. Prior experience working with museum collections is preferred, but will consider similar training or experience gained through upper-level academic programs.
Museum of Natural History & Science Exhibit Intern
Department: Museum of Natural History & Science - Education
Responsibilities:
- Obtain a general knowledge of, and interpret MNH&S exhibits and science floor demonstrations as needed; ensuring that all museum guests have an educational, enjoyable, and safe experience.
- Assisting with the LITE Lab (Learning Innovation, Technology, and Engineering) by facilitating self-guided and hands on challenges.
- Assisting in maintaining and preparing vegetable/plant garden along with assisting with program research relating to gardens
- Assist in research and development of programs as needed; incorporating state standards.
- General office work including using Excel and Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Outlook programs.
Qualifications:
- Background in science education, geology, environmental studies, biology, paleontology, math, physics, chemistry, or equivalent is required.
- Must be outgoing, friendly, and energetic and have a positive attitude.
- Desire and ability to work with the public, particularly school groups and families, in an informal education environment is a must.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.

Responsibilities: Responsible for delivering exciting and content-rich programs to school age students (grades pre-K - 12) in the areas of science and social studies. Those interested in this position should enjoy working with diverse audiences and possess an eagerness to share museum-based content in a lively, engaging manner. Training will be provided. Current volunteers include former teachers as well as other professionals. Youth Program Development Intern
Department: Education
Responsibilities: Assist in planning and implementation of programs such as Summer Camps, Scout programs, and various Public Education programs. Will be required to research and write lesson plans. Assist with purchase or preparation of materials for upcoming programs and conduct materials inventory. This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications: Currently enrolled in an Education Program, Museum Studies or related field. Previous experience with writing lesson plans. Must be a team player with excellent organization and communication skills.

Youth Programs Training Intern
Department: Cincinnati History Museum - Education
Responsibilities:
- Obtain a general knowledge of CHM exhibits and floor demonstrations.
- Assist the Program Coordinator in the training of CHM’s youth volunteers. (The Youth Volunteer Program trains youth ages 13-18 in customer service, exhibit interpretation, and program demonstration. Youth accepted into the volunteer program typically stay for 3 or more years. 1 to 15 youth are present on the museum floor daily during the summer months.)
- General office work related to youth training, including using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Qualifications:
- Must be outgoing, friendly, and energetic and have a positive attitude.
- Desire and ability to work with the public, particularly youth and families, in an informal education environment.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting.
