Recent Grant supports Manuscripts and Archives
The John Hauck Foundation generously awarded $50,000 in support of our manuscript archives and library collections, which reflect the shared history of our community. Our curators work diligently to preserve and make these items accessible to a growing audience of researchers, scholars, students and members of the general public.
The Manuscript and Library collections increase each year whenever new acquisitions occur, and they vary in size. Currently, this portion of our collections encompasses approximately 2,200 major collections and 7,500 smaller ones. Overall, these consist of personal and family papers as well as business and organizational records that document the history of the Greater Cincinnati region and the Old Northwest Territory. They cover a broad range of subject areas including the arts, domestic life, education, religion, business and industry, politics, military service, neighborhoods, and ethnic groups.
The Cincinnati History Library and Archives has manuscript items collected since the founding of the organization in 1831. The earliest records date to the 18th century, spanning the period from early Ohio settlement to the present. You can view some of the collections online at the Library website: http://library.cincymuseum.org/.
We are very grateful to The John Hauck Foundation for helping us make these collections available to the public.
