Science meets art: New exhibit features artworks inspired by Charles Darwin
Form from Form opens January 22 at Cincinnati Museum Center

CINCINNATI—What do you get when you combine science, art, and a dash of local flavor? A whimsical and enchanting exhibition- Form from Form: Art from Discovery- opening January 22 at Cincinnati Museum Center.

Form from Form features artworks relating to the themes of evolution, metamorphosis, and change created by leading Cincinnati artists. The exhibition celebrates the life and accomplishments of Charles Darwin, the “Father of Evolution,” through Darwin-inspired paintings, ceramics, sculptures, and mixed media.

The exhibition was originally created for and displayed at the University of Cincinnati in 2009 as part of a collaborative community educational program for the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the publication of On the Origin of Species.

Form from Form showcases artworks from Anthony Becker, Ana England, Gary Gaffney, Stephen Geddes, Rhonda Gushee, January Marx Knoop, Lisa Merida-Paytes, Thomas Towhey. Mary Heider, assistant dean emerita at the University of Cincinnati, is the exhibition curator.

A free “Meet the Artists” opening event will take place on January 23 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the exhibition gallery. No reservations are required for this event. 

The exhibition is free and open to the public. Form from Form runs from January 22 through March 13 in the John A. Ruthven Gallery during regular museum hours.
