Early Childhood Exhibit Program Specialist

Job Purpose   

Insures that all museum guests have an educational, enjoyable and safe experience by providing customer service and facilitating early childhood and floor programs.  Represent Cincinnati Museum Center at local events and programs to spread concept of how children learn through play at Duke Energy Children’s Museum.          

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Spends approximately 60% of time on museum floor:

  • Implements advertised early childhood programs (12.5%).*
  • Facilitates committee programs and assists adult and youth volunteers with program facilitation.
  • Facilitates the needs of individuals and groups performing in the children’s museum.
  • Facilitates the needs of Sprouts Institute family workshop presenters.
  • Mentors youth volunteers in terms of interacting with visitors, program presentation, public speaking and job skills.
  • Interacts with visitors by greeting, answering questions, interacting in exhibits and reuniting lost families.*
  • Provides a clean and safe setting by performing daily cleaning tasks; tidying of exhibits throughout the day; and reporting housekeeping needs to appropriate department.*

Spends approximately 40% of time in office:

  • Assists Early Childhood Program Developer with developing early childhood programs; updates early childhood program attendance and inventory of supplies; completes evaluations of early childhood programs (18%).*
  • Creates interactive, developmentally-appropriate committee programs that meet academic and early learning content standards and develop skills, and evaluates and provides feedback on programs created by other staff as managed by Education Program Developer (14%).
  • Attends events in community or arranges new contacts for events to communicate how children learn through play at the Duke Energy Children’s Museum (1.5%).
  • Attends meetings (children’s museum staff; children’s museum programs) (2.5%).
  • Creates a daily floor schedule one day of the week (1%).
  • Completes clerical work: answer email and voicemail; timesheets (3%).*
  • Facilitates other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred; will consider relevant degree or experience working with children.  At least two years experience working with children required.  Knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Explorer is preferred.  Must have strong communication and customer service skills, excellent organization and be flexible. 

 

Working Conditions

Schedule includes working one weekend day with occasional evening hours required.  Valid driver’s license and transportation or be able to arrange for transportation to attend occasional events throughout city is required.  Working conditions include normal office environment; children’s museum floor which has a variety of surfaces and lighting with many loose props; and occasional work outdoors at festivals and other locations.

 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to stand and walk for several hours with no break; have ability to lift up to thirty pounds; and be able to stoop or crawl to pick up items.

Additional Information

Position is part time, 20 hours per week with a variable schedule. Some evenings, weekends, and holidays required (museum is closed Christmas and Thanksgiving)
